Al-Anon Family Groups
About District 5
What is District 5?
It is a combination of group representatives of
seven meetings from Wolfeboro to North Conway that meet monthly to share
information of importance. We are fortunate to have willing members in this
district that want to give back to the program by practicing Tradition Seven,
knowing that it is suggested that each group have a group representative.
District 5 meets in Tamworth since it is central for the attendees. There is
an agenda that is followed for each meeting to include all timely happenings
and events.
One of the benefits of meeting is to unify the groups
within the district. With discussion and awareness a bonding forms between
attendees. It is an opportunity to share on problems or solutions so all can
benefit from the information.
The district also has officers- district
representative, alternate district representative, secretary and treasurer. The
district representative chairs the meetings. Willing members stand for the
positions and the group representatives vote for their choice. The term is for
three years, a day at a time.
It is a great place to learn that participation is
the key to harmony. Everyone has a voice and is encouraged to say what they
think. After a thorough discussion of a topic then a vote is taken.
Social events are planned to just have fun. This is
really important since some Al-Anons have a hard time giving themselves
permission to have a good time. There have been dances, skating parties and
eating out. It gives members an opportunity to see others in a different
environment than the meeting room.
An outreach project has been going on where our
district helps other meetings with information and support. We are constantly
working on public outreach projects to inform the public of Al-Anon and what it
is about.
One of the fund raisers that we have done is to make
calendars containing Al-Anon conference approved items. By participating in
these projects, one can get to know other members better and have lots of
laughs while getting the job done.
The district is trying to fill positions that
require more members to be willing to give back what we receive at meetings.
When your group representative asks for volunteers, please try a position. We
need you and would like to hear from you!
Someone said that they got the most growth when they
got into service. We need you at District 5 meetings! Together we can make it!
